Some Riverbank High School athletes have been able to get a little more serious about their abbreviated seasons as workouts were able to begin last week. Some teams were even able to sneak in a little competition, as well.

Members of coach Monte Wood’s cross country team were working out on campus last week, with other RHS sports teams picking up the action, as well.

According to RHS Athletic Director John Bartlett, the boys and girls golf teams have had their first matches, as has the co-ed cross country team, along with co-ed tennis players. Scores/results were not available at press time.

“Football was scheduled to start practicing this week,” Bartlett said, “and soccer started conditioning last week.”

According to boys soccer coach Juan Harvey, the boys and girls teams are having to split their time on the practice field because “only one program at a time” can be out there utilizing the field. But they’re only conditioning, so far, since their pre-season hasn’t officially begun yet.

“Softball is also scheduled to start practicing this week,” Bartlett added, “but baseball got moved to the season which starts in April, along with track and field.”

But he also warned that schedules have been changing from week to week, depending on pandemic numbers and the county’s tier status.
