Summer time off for some Riverbank High School students was ending last week and this, with the RHS Guard Corps holding its camp from July 24 through 26. Full Band Camp was set to start Monday, July 29 and run through Bruin Day, Thursday, Aug. 1.

While Guard Corps members were able to dodge the summer heat last week by working out in the band room on campus, the band camp is scheduled to be a little more rigorous.

Monday, the band members were to get an introduction and instruction on marching basics from 8 a.m. to noon, then take a lunch break until 1:30 p.m. Sections were scheduled until 3 p.m. in various rooms around campus.

From 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., there was to be a full music rehearsal, with the Color Guard practicing in the gym from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

With a dinner break set aside from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., the schedule then included drill training to continue until 8 p.m., making for a busy first day.

Tuesday and Wednesday were to hold similar schedules, with freshmen and Link Crew members expected to miss the morning events to meet elsewhere on campus.

Thursday, band members are to participate in Bruin Day activities, with lunch from noon until 1:30 p.m. That’ll be followed by full music rehearsals and guard practice in the gym again, with the squad preparing for on field performances during the upcoming football season.

A BBQ dinner break is set for 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday with a halftime Showcase ending at 8 p.m.

Riverbank’s home football schedule includes five games this year, with the first set for Friday, Aug. 30.
