School classes ended for the winter break on Friday, Dec. 17 but games will continue a bit during the holiday recess.

Last week, on the RHS courts, three out of five days saw basketball action. Home soccer matches weren’t as lucky, with the pitch in the Angelo Novi Stadium too wet for play.

Lady Bruin Basketball

On Tuesday, Dec. 14, the varsity girls hosted Central Valley's Lady Hawks, from Ceres, coming out on top, 59-31. Lady Bruin basketball was scheduled early Tuesday, Dec. 21, with a 2:30 p.m. varsity start time hosting Sonora. They’ve also got a game on the books for Tuesday, Dec. 28 hosting Mariposa.

Bruin Basketball

Riverbank had two games played last week, with varying results.

Last Wednesday, Dec. 15 the Bruins hosted the Hawks of Central Valley High School from Ceres, and were ahead for most of the pre-season game. Down just two points at the end of the third quarter, they came back to win, 67-57.

But things were reversed in Friday’s game, Dec. 17. The Bruins hosted Denair in another non-league game, but gave away a height advantage at every position, and never had a lead in the game. Riverbank was only able to score six points in the fourth quarter, and fell to the Coyotes, 59-27.

This week, RHS was to host Waterford on Monday, Dec. 20, then play at Oakdale Tuesday; games after The News went to press. And they’ll host Turlock Christian High School next Wednesday, Dec. 29.

Soccer Bruins

Riverbank fought to a 2-2 tie against Livingston, last Wednesday, then faced a 0-0 tie at Hughson’s Huskies on Friday in Trans-Valley League action. The Bruins were set to host McNair from Stockton on Monday this week, then travel to Chowchilla on Thursday to close out 2021 with some non-league play. The Chowchilla match is to be their final game this year. They’re next scheduled to play on Monday, Jan. 3.

Lady Bruin Soccer

Girls soccer scores have not been reported, as there have been some scheduling difficulties since the home field has been pretty wet.

Looking ahead, the Lady Bruins are scheduled to play next on Wednesday and Friday, Jan. 5 and 7, at Ripon and Modesto Christian, respectively.
