With just a few weeks left in this season’s Trans-Valley League activities, Riverbank High sports just keep on ticking, with just occasional rain interfering with schedules. Here is a wrap of the past week’s action.
Lady Bruin Softball
In what could have been another serious rout for girls softball on Friday, April 12, the game took a turn in favor of the home team. What started out as an eight-run deficit after just half an inning included giving up a couple of home runs with opponents on base. But the Lady Bruins fought back, including a grand slam home run of their own, off the bat of junior pitcher Marisol Garcia.
Unfortunately, the visiting Lady Yellowjackets of Hilmar still managed to hand Riverbank a 26-11 loss in Trans-Valley League play.
Earlier in the week, the Lady Bruins lost, 12-1, in five innings in Livingston.
The girls were to host Hughson’s Huskies on Monday this week after The News went to press, and then go to Ripon on Thursday, April 18.
Bruin Baseball
Boys baseball was also scheduled to host a game against Hughson on Monday, they last played at Hughson on April 4 and took a 3-2 loss there. Then they were to receive a visit from Ripon on Tuesday, with both games played after The News went to press. The Bruins will be on the road to face off with the Indians on Thursday, April 18.
Co-Ed Tennis
The Bruin tennis squads had a mixed schedule last week. On Tuesday, April 9, the girls hosted Millennium of Tracy. The Falcons only field a girls team, so Riverbank boys had to settle for some practice time after the Lady Bruin matches were complete. The girls did well against MHS.
The next day there was a make-up match against Ripon, with Riverbank winning the day 6-3.
This week, they were scheduled to host Escalon after The News went to press on Tuesday and are scheduled to host Ripon on Thursday.
