Bruin boys and girls teams both hosted Lathrop last week, kicking off their 2022-23 winter soccer seasons. Girls and boys basketball got a start, too, with all teams playing scrimmage, non-league contests.
Lady Bruin Soccer
The Riverbank girls got their start on the home soccer pitch on Tuesday, Nov. 15, with the Lady Spartans visiting Angelo Novi Stadium, leaving with an ‘unofficial’ victory, 3-2. The scoreboard was not in use, but coaches knew what the outcome was.
Scores were not reported from the Stagg Tournament last Friday and Saturday in Stockton.
Though school is out this week for Thanksgiving, the Lady Bruins were to host Oakdale on Tuesday, Nov. 22. They have two more home matches scheduled for next Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.
Bruin Soccer
Boys soccer also hosted Lathrop last week, on Wednesday, with the varsity squad coming out on top, 3-0. Coach Juan Harvey was able to report, unofficially, that goals were scored by Andre Chia, Ivan Garcia, and Gonzalo Luna, since it, too, was a scrimmage, with shortened periods, and no formal score kept.
At the Hughson Tournament last Friday, the varsity beat Central Catholic High School, 4-0; Denair, 1-0; both on Friday, Nov. 18, and Waterford, 2-0, on Saturday.
On Tuesday, even though it’s the Thanksgiving recess, RHS was scheduled to travel to McNair High School in Stockton. They’ll next host Golden Valley High School from Merced, on Tuesday, Nov. 28.
Lady Bruin Basketball
Varsity girls started up their season on Friday, Nov. 18, at home, against Oakdale, also a non-league game. RHS came out strong, finishing 65-17, on top. They were scheduled to play on Monday this Thanksgiving week, hosting Turlock, then Central Catholic on Tuesday, both preseason match-ups. They’ll play again at home on Tuesday, Nov. 28 against Ceres.
Bruin Basketball
Boys basketball was to start its preseason on the road, at Mariposa on Monday, Nov. 21, then at Enochs in Modesto on Tuesday, Nov. 22. The first home match will be the Foundation Game, a fundraiser for Trans-Valley League projects, on Monday, Nov. 28.
Trans-Valley League games and matches aren’t scheduled to start until January, after the winter break.
