The true identity of the game of baseball is based layered around the fact that there is always another at-bat tomorrow, yet the Riverbank Bruins baseball team is running out of innings in the search for its first Trans-Valley League win.

The Bruins ran into a stubborn Escalon Cougars squad that raced past the Bruins 16-1 in the initial meeting and 9-1 in the finale of the home-and-home series April 15 and 17. Escalon, one of the TVL favorites coming into the season, had no problem disposing of the Bruins, jumping out with nine runs over the second and third innings of the Tuesday contest.

Riverbank faces the uphill battle of trying to get better in between two-game sets with some of the more challenging teams in the Sac-Joaquin Section. Modesto Christian, Escalon, Hughson and now a revitalized Ripon Christian program all can be major factors in this year's postseason if their individual berths come about. The Bruins scrap against the teams who have set the standard in small school baseball over the past half decade.
