At Oakdale Golf Tournament

Riverbank golfer Gina Pecchenino won a third place in her age group during the Oakdale Junior Classic played Aug. 2.

Competing in the girls 15-17 age group, Pecchenino carded an 84 to finish behind Michelle Hatsuchi of Danville, who won with a 82, and Tiffany Dirkson of Reedley, who also stroked an 82.

Pecchenino also posted the longest drive of the tournament. Another Riverbank resident, Julia Stokman, playing in the girls 11 and under age group, came closest to the pin.

Joseph Mayol, also of Riverbank, played in the 14-15 boys group but was unable to place in the top three.

Last year, Pecchenino won the overall girls championship with an 83.

She graduated in May from Central Catholic High School where she led the golf team. She is headed for Fresno State to play on its first all girls golf team. The college, which plays sports in Division I, previously had only a boys golf team.

Pecchenino has plans to train as a physical therapist.
