Riverbank Netters Serve Up Second Win

Winning their second match of the season, Riverbank tennis players defeated Modesto Christian by 6-1 on Friday after humbling Bret Harte, 5-2, in the previous week.

Bruin coach Bruce Edwards said, however, that Christian was short of their number one boy and three girls, and he is looking forward to a rematch at full strength.

In number one girls singles, Kelly Burda of Modesto Christan defeated Katy Hughes of Riverbank 7-5, 7-5 for the Bruins only loss.

The girls singles was an up and down match, whereas Javier Contreras dominated the boys event, said Edwards.

Rachel Soto defeated Sarah Joliff 6-1, 6-4 in the number two girls singles.

In boys singles, Contreras defeated Danny Joseph by 6-0, 6-0, and Matt Santin defeated Aaron Holt, 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles, Tyler Burnett and Justin Jarvis won the boys event 5-7, 6-0, 6-3, Amber Nickles and Vivian Fernandez the girls doubles 6-0, 6-2 and Nathan Lyday and Celilia Gutierrez the mixed doubles 6-1, 6-1.

The Bruins schedule this week includes Argonaut away on Tuesday and Calaveras at home on Thursday. They will play Waterford away next Tuesday,March 9.
