The Riverbank High tennis program has enjoyed a great deal of success in the early stages of the 2008 season, grabbing victories over Livingston and Patterson High in recent action.

The Bruins took care of Livingston to open up the spring campaign and followed the victory up with two convincing wins over Patterson High, one on the road and one at home.

Riverbank (3-0) has been led by senior returners Danny Geren and Raquel Medina. Both seniors have been exceptional throughout the young season, with both players failing to lose a match so far.

"Danny is our No. 1 boys player and he should do very well come league time," Riverbank head coach Bruce Edwards said. "Although Escalon has a foreign exchange student who beat their No. 1, so Danny will have his hands full with this foreign exchange student."

Edwards knows that his squad had garnered some early season success against a less-than-stellar Patterson squad, but still feels there are several things that he can smile at pertaining to his team's early season makeup.

"I really like the way the new boys are developing," Edwards said. "The boys that have been out for a couple of years have really impressed me with their athleticism, and we also have a couple of girls who are really picking up the game."

Riverbank is enjoying some quality play from the girls doubles team of Marlene Lizarraga and Charli Perez, who took care of the Livingston doubles team, as well as No. 2 doubles tandem of Elizabeth Zamora and Mari Cruz Pantoja, who also netted a victory over Livingston.
