Riverbank players suit up for Storm

The Stockton Storm softball travel team for 14-year-old and under girls didn't have any pitchers, and sought the help of several Riverbank girls.

So Heather (Fenn) Carey and Brooke Bryhn, who are both pitchers, and Colleen Cornish, who plays second base, quit Team Action of Riverbank to lead the Stockton team to victory.

At least that's the way Heather's mother Sherry Fenn describes it.

However you see it, just two weeks after the local trio joined up, the Stockton team took first place in the National Softball Association SANCO tournament which featured eight teams playing in Stockton.

Heather Carey struck out 15 batters on July 18 on the way to a win in the championship game against the Woodland Edge.

Stockton Storm travels throughout the area and plays from December through May.

Bob Smith, their coach, found he had no pitchers so he ran a newspaper advertisement. The three Riverbank girls tried out, played one practice game and then helped win the tournament.

Future tournaments for the Stockton Storm include a visit to Sonora on Aug. 7-8 and then another tourney at Rainbow Fields just south of Riverbank.

Sherry Fenn complained that Team Action is "falling apart" due to poor coaching.
