The up and down swings of the 2009 season came to an end for the Riverbank High softball team, but not before a complete team effort victory over the Ripon Indians.

The Lady Bruins scored early and often in a 10-2 Trans-Valley League win, scoring three runs in the first inning and four more in the fourth. Riverbank would go on and add another three runs in the sixth inning.

Ripon found themselves overmatched from the start, collecting just five hits over seven innings of action. Riverbank hurler Carlye Avey kept the Indians off balance, striking out two and walking one.

The girls closed out the season with an 8-13 overall record, dropping five contests that Riverbank trailed by just one run.

Riverbank will have a solid foundation to build upon over the next few seasons with the bulk of their talent for another season competing for the Lady Bruin softball program.

It was the end of a long grind for the Riverbank High baseball team and there were some bright spots in the Bruins' final Trans-Valley league action of the season.

Riverbank came into their season-ending series with Ripon on the heels of a four-game scoring drought. The Bruins had been held scoreless over their final 20-plus innings of action, but a fifth inning run against the Indians broke the scoreless streak.

Riverbank closed out a trying 4-20-1 season, earning their first TVL win in over three seasons when they knocked off the Ripon Christian Knights 6-3 March 20 for the season's highlight.

The Bruins will have to build their program through summer programs and underclassmen teams, but the challenge could prove to be tough when the TVL champion Escalon Cougars also boast an undefeated TVL champion junior varsity squad.
