Riverbank athletes swept to victory in both the girls and boys divisions of the Trans-Valley League track and field meet on Wednesday at Modesto Junior College.

This is the ninth year in a row Riverbank boys have won the TVL track and field title. The girls have won a championship five out of the past six times and for the last three years in a row.

This year, the Bruin girls led with 156 points trailed by Escalon 97, Hilmar 87, Hughson 55, Patterson 46, Livingston 30 and Ripon 20.

Bruin boys won the meet with 146 points. They were followed by Escalon 111, Hughson 104, Ripon 54, Hilmar 48, Patterson 25 and Livingston 5.

"We pretty much dominated in the girls events, winning by almost 60 points," said Bruin coach Monte Wood.

Star athlete Kasey Wool, he noted, won four league titles. She broke the meet record for the pole vault with a height of 10-9. The previous mark was 10 feet. She set a school record in the 100 meters, dropping the Bruin mark from 16.46 to 16.22. She won the 300 meter hurdles in 48.25.

"She also anchored the 4x100 meter relay race," said Wood. "We were in third place when she got the baton and ran her two opponents into the ground. Riverbank's winning time was 53.79."

Brettany Harrison won two league titles with wins in the 400 meters in 1:04.75 and the 800 meters in 2:30.63.

Kristina Martinez, Allison Holmer and Kelly Clancey were the other three who ran with Wool in the 4x100 relay.

Among other high spots, Lourdes Duarte placed third in the shot put with a heave of 31-04, Clancey was third in the triple jump with a distance of 31-09, Georgina Arnold placed second in the mile in 5:41.04 and third in the two mile in 12.46.

Arnold exchanged positions with Bianca Melchor who finished third in the mile in 5:41.39 and second in the two mile in 12.44.

Holmer placed fourth in the 200 meters in 28.53 besides running in both relays and Melody DeYoung was third in the 400 meters in 1:06.6.

In the boys division, Ben DeYoung won two league titles, in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 42.26 and in the pole vault with a height of 13-06. Alex Nabors also won a league championship in the 3200 meters with a winning time of 10:32.27.

DeYoung, David Harrison and Mike Dougherty finished first, second and third in the 300 meter hurdles. They were third, fourth and fifth in the same order in the 110 meter hurdles.

Ralphie Stevens placed second in both the long jump with a leap of 20-01 and the triple jump in 41-04. Francisco Rangel placed third in the discus with a throw of 127-03.

"We may not have taken that many first places but we had depth, lots of seconds, thirds, fourths and so on. That's what gave us the victory," said Wood. "We didn't expect to win by as many points as we did."

The Bruins were due to head into the subsections on Tuesday and Thursday of this week again at Modesto Junior College.
