Baseball, softball and volleyball teams all saw plenty of action over the past couple of weeks for Riverbank.
The majority of games have been non-league, though baseball and volleyball have each played one league match.
BASEBALL
Closing out their preseason with back-to-back wins, the varsity baseball boys defeated Denair 8-5 on March 2 on the home field, then traveled to Waterford on March 4 and won there by a 9-3 final.
Against Denair, the Bruins used a five-run fifth inning to put the win on the books. Keegan Loe, Cody Martin and Austynn Givargiznia each drove in a pair of runs.
In the win over Waterford, the Bruins broke out on top with three runs in the first and three in the second to take the lead and added on for the margin of victory. Isaiah Deras went 2-for-3 in the game with two runs scored and two runs driven in.
Then it was the start of Mother Lode League action for the team and they lost at home to visiting Bret Harte on Friday, March 13. The final was 13-3 in favor of the Bullfrogs and Riverbank was outhit by the visitors, 14-5.
Collecting the Bruin hits were Loe, Anthony Rios and Xavier Lopez with one hit each, Deras with two. Loe had two stolen bases in the game, Deras, Rios and Lopez had one each and driving in a run apiece were Martin and Daniel Garnica.
The Bruins were scheduled to play at Summerville on March 17 and will be home to host Big Valley Christian on March 21 before they travel to Calaveras on Tuesday, March 24.
SOFTBALL
Mother Lode League play for the varsity softball girls will begin this week, as the Lady Bruins prepare to host Big Valley Christian on Friday, March 20 at 4 p.m.
The girls have played a hectic schedule, including several games this month in non-league, preseason contests.
On March 3, the girls were 4-1 winners at Waterford and also put a 13-2 victory on the books on March 5 at Grace Davis. They fell in a March 6 road game at River Islands, 16-8, and then fell at home to Central Valley by a 13-3 decision. They were at Hilmar on Friday, March 13 where they were shut out by the host Lady Yellowjackets, 12-0 and then managed just one run in a home loss to Ripon, 12-1, on Monday, March 16.
Their largest margin of victory in preseason came against the Grace Davis Spartans; Riverbank took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, then poured it on with seven runs in the second and five in the third. Grace Davis avoided the shutout with two runs in the fifth.
Leading the offense in that contest was Janelle Montoya with three hits, two runs scored and four runs driven in. Audrey Richey drove in three runs, Madison Bosworth notched two RBI and Maya Guzman belted out a triple. Brieseda Felix had a double.
Along with the league opener on Friday, March 20 the girls will face Mother Lode League opponent Calaveras, on the road Tuesday, March 24.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
The Bruin varsity boys opened their league season for volleyball on March 11 at Ripon Christian, falling 3-0.
They are scheduled to host the Knights on Thursday, March 19 at 6 p.m.
The boys took non-league losses to Central Catholic, Oakdale, Waterford, Vanguard College Prep and Denair in preseason and are still looking to put their first win of the campaign on the books.
