Riverbank Track Team Fairs Well At Escalon Rotary Invitational

Competing in a frosh-soph invitational at Escalon on Friday, Riverbank track and field athletes placed second in the girls and third in the boys division.

"Considering we only took eight or nine girls, finishing second was pretty good," said Bruin coach Monte Wood.

The team was also without four runners who have been racing at the varsity level recently and need resting, he added.

Among highlights for the Bruin girls, Kelly Clancey won the 300 meter hurdles and pole vault.

Allison Holmer scored two third places in the 100 and 200 meter sprints.

Melody DeYoung placed third in the 400 meters for a personal record.

Angelica Duarte and Tiffany Lackey won places in all three of the long distance races.

In the boys division, Tony Winstead won the pole vault with a height of 12-6 and set a new personal record.

Omar Fernandez, a freshman, won the mile race and took second place in the 800 meters.

Isaac Montoya, also a freshman, was third in the mile and fourth in the 800 meters event.

Ivan Nunes, who seems to improve every week in both races and jumps, did the fastest lap for the Bruins in the 4x400 meter relay.

In the dual meet against Patterson on Wednesday, the Bruin boys won, 74-34, and the girls, 83-37.

Boy winners for Riverbank were; shot put - Andy Sesma, with 40-11; discus - Francisco Rangel with 115-11; long jump - Ralphie Stevens, with 18-04, triple jump - Scott Jeglum, with 36-11; high jump - Jeglum, with 5-0; 110 meter hurdles - Ben DeYoung, in 17.12; 4x100 relay - Riverbank. in 46.73; 100 meters - Brandon Parker, in 11.6; 300 meters - DeYoung, in 45.64; 800 meters - Alex Nabors, in 2:09.06; 200 meters - Parker, in 23.88; 3,200 meters - Rangel, in 11:02; and 4x400 - Riverbank, in 3:54.02.

Bruin girls who scored first place were as follows:

Shot put - Lourdes Duarte, with 29-3; discus - Duarte, with 90-02; triple jump - Kelly Clancey, with 31-02; high jump - Liz Mila, with 4-02; 100 meter hurdles - Kasey Wool, in 17.40; 1,600 meters - Angelica Duarte, in 6:29.90; 4x100 relay - Riverbank, in 55.12; 400 meters - Bianca Melchor, in 1:10.49; 100 meters - Wool, in 13.20; 3.200 meters - Angelica Duarte in 14:15, 300 meters - Wool, in 50.0; 800 meters - Angelica Duarte, in 2:47.76; 4x400 relay - Riverbank. in 4:55.24.

The Trans Valley League meet is slated for today, followed by the sub-sections next Tuesday and Thursday.
