There is no easy way to get your football team back on track when you make your home in the Trans-Valley League, battling against some of the best small-school powerhouses in the entire state. The disappointing challenge of righting the ship continued off course for the Riverbank Bruins during their 55-0 thrashing at the hands of the Modesto Christian High Crusaders on Oct. 19 in Salida.

The Bruins proved to be no match for the once beaten Crusaders, with Modesto Christian jumping all over the Bruins with 27 unanswered first half points. The Crusaders got off to a quick start when running back Isaiah Burse took a first quarter handoff 80-yards for a touchdown, putting the Crusaders up for good with the opening quarter score.

Riverbank's offensive struggles continued against Modesto Christian, putting up a dismal 32 yards of total offense in the contest. Modesto Christian had little problem racking up yardage offensively, rolling all over the Bruins for 361 yards rushing on just 30 carries from scrimmage.

Riverbank (0-2, 2-5) was able to move the chains just four times in the blowout, racking up 54 passing yards on the Crusaders for their only sign of success on the offensive side of the ball. The Crusaders tossed the football around for 116 yards, but their success through the air only made up a minimal portion of their 477 yards of total offense.

Riverbank was able to improve dramatically in the turnover department, losing just one fumble to the Crusaders in the contest while the defensive unit was able to cause three turnovers in the game.

The Bruins will look to get into the TVL win column win they play host to the Ripon Christian Knights for the Oct. 26 Homecoming game at Angelo Novi Field. The Knights come into the contest riding a 7-game slide and will look to make their debut in the win column against the Bruins.

The Knights have not found too much success on the season, with their most lopsided losses coming in the early weeks of the TVL schedule. The Knights had the hard luck draw of facing the always-impressive Escalon Cougars and the Crusaders in back-to-back league games, making up their 0-2 TVL record. They were shut out by Escalon on Oct. 19, 42-0.

Ripon Christian came closest to earning a win in its week two loss to Delhi in a 6-0 contest. The Knights were able to outlast the Bruins a season ago in their 27-6 victory over Riverbank, but will in no way come into this contest as the favorite.

Riverbank has been able to have more success among the two team's common opponent, Delhi, when they beat the Hawks back in week three.

The two TVL squads will hook up at Riverbank High on Friday night, with the Bruins also crowning the Homecoming Queen in pre-game ceremonies.
