Slowly, but surely, the Riverbank High sports teams are getting back into a routine.
That, following some non-league action and some tournament play over the holiday break from school.
On Saturday evening, Jan. 3, the varsity basketball boys hosted Escalon, a team they used to face in Trans-Valley League play. Now that the Bruins are in the Mother Lode League, this was a non-league contest. It was the final game of the night on Jan. 3, with the freshmen taking a 41-34 win over Escalon and the JV boys losing 77-32.
The varsity Bruins also found themselves taking a loss, falling by a 65-50 decision to Escalon. It was a close contest through the first half but the visiting Cougars used a strong run to start the third quarter to take a lead they would not relinquish.
Then, going on the road for a game on Monday, Jan. 5, the Bruin boys lost their varsity game at Sonora, falling in a tough 48-45 contest.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
The varsity girls took a loss, 48-45, to Gregori in non-league play this week and are scheduled to host Calaveras in Mother Lode League play on Friday, Jan. 9 at 6 p.m. Then they will play at Linden on Jan. 16.
BOYS SOCCER
In a Jan. 2 contest, the varsity boys were shut out, 2-0, at Gregori in non-league play. They followed up with a huge 11-0 victory this week at Big Valley Christian to start league with a win and are scheduled to play at Calaveras on Jan. 8 and at Venture Academy in a non-league game on Jan. 10.
GIRLS SOCCER
It was a lopsided 11-1 loss at Hilmar for the Lady Bruin varsity soccer team, playing on Friday, Jan. 2. The girls will look to regroup as they begin league play with a home game against Calaveras on Jan. 8.
