Soccer Bruins Still Undefeated In League

With only four games remaining in Trans-Valley League play, Riverbank High's boys soccer team is the clear favorite to take home the first of three seeds from the TVL into the Division V Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs.

The team beat Escalon 4-1 on the road with two scores in each half on Wednesday, Oct. 7. Juan Harvey, Christian Albor, Ricardo Vigil (assist) and Adrian Pantoja (assist) all scored in the win while Hugo Calderon managed seven saves in the Bruin net.

Riverbank (9-0 TVL, 10-5-2 overall) had topped Ripon Christian 4-1 on Monday, Oct. 5, after four goals from Albor and assists by Vigil (two) and Harvey. Calderon saved one and Rafael Zamudio three in the win.

Riverbank's junior varsity team topped Ripon Christian, 8-2, as well but lost a hard fought match to Escalon, 3-2, to split their games.

The Bruins hosted Ripon (17-3, 6-2) on Monday, Oct. 12, though results were not available at press time. The team is at Hughson today (Oct. 14) and at Modesto Christian on Monday, Oct. 19.

The Division V SJS playoff kick off on Nov. 10, with three teams from both the TVL and Western Athletic Conference and two teams from the Mother Lode League advancing to compete in the second season.
