Riverbank High School girls won two out three games and tied with Escalon for sixth place in the 12-team Riverbank Soccer Classic.

Ripon carried off the tournament crown, while Patterson placed second. Linden fell into third place, with Oakdale taking fourth. The other teams in contention were Enterprise, Waterford, Livingston, Delhi, Argonaut and Los Banos.

Taking the field shortly after noon on Friday, the Bruins battled the Waterford Wildcats to a 1-1 tie in their first game.

Making a long distance shot, Courtney Nelson was the scorer for Riverbank. The shot came close to the end of the game when Waterford thought it had a win in the bag. Raquel Anguiano made a bunch of saves, something like nine of them, in goal.

Matched against Patterson later that afternoon, however, Riverbank took a 7-0 drubbing.

"We were flat the whole game. They scored regularly and our goalie got a lot of action,' said Riverbank coach Roger Nelson.

On Saturday in their final game, the Bruins turned things around by defeating the Escalon junior varsity team by 4-0.

Riverbank's Tiffany Banda, Erica Galvan, Serena Palmer and Sonia Silveira each scored a goal to share the honors around.

In an earlier game played away, against Waterford on Feb. 23, Riverbank won, 2-0. Banda scored once on her own and then scored again with an assist from Nelson.

This week, the Bruins are free of games and will concentrate on honing their skills at practice. Their next games are slated for Monday, March 7, away to Bret Harte. On Tuesday of that week, they are at home against Calaveras, and on Thursday, away again at Summerville.
