The Bruins were shut out twice in varsity softball, falling to Hughson by 4-0 on Tuesday and to Patterson, 3-0, on Thursday.

"We need to look on the positive side," said Riverbank coach Sam Graham. "We have five games left. Four of them are attainable. We could win them."

The Hughson pitcher Angela Cabral hurled a perfect on Tuesday, making 21 strikeouts and allowing no hits.

Jamie Davidson pitched for Riverbank into the hands of Tessa Lozano.

"The girls did a good job against a very tough pitcher," said Graham. "But we didn't show much enthusiasm until right at the end when Courtney Brock hit a ball down the baseline."

Hughson collected six hits and scored all four of its runs in the third inning.

Thursday's game against Patterson could have gone either way.

"But Patterson got all three runs at the start. Riverbank got off on the wrong foot," said Graham.

Megan Medrano pitched a four-hitter, allowing hits in the first and fourth innings.

Riverbank's two hits came from Tara Bosworth and Medrano, who both collected a single in three visits to the plate.

The Bruins are now 2-7 in league. This week's games are both at home. They match Riverbank with Ripon on Tuesday and with Hilmar on Thursday.
