Varsity softball players of Riverbank High defeated Livingston 3-0 on Tuesday, then turned around and lost to Escalon 8-0 on Thursday.
Varsity hurler Jaime Davidson pitched all the way against Livingston, notched 13 strikeouts and allowed one hit.
"The Livingston pitcher was a freshman, not too bad, she had two strikeouts. But we overpowered her," said Bruin coach Sam Graham.
Riverbank scored two runs in the first inning and one more in the sixth.
Scattering 10 hits in all, Tara Bosworth went 3-for-4 with three singles and an RBI, Courtney Brock was 2-for-3 with two singles, Stephanie Tapia was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Tessa Lozano 2-for-3 with two singles.
As it was their last home game, the Bruins held a barbecue at the school cooked by the grandfather of one of the players.
Against Escalon, the Bruins got only one solid hit. That was by Megan Medrano who also pitched.
The Cougars collected 10 hits and committed no errors. They scored two runs in the first inning, four in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the sixth.
"We were only able to take nine players because some girls were gone on the Disneyland Seniors trip," said Graham. "We wanted to bring up a junior varsity player. But her team wanted her to play with them for the last game."
Riverbank's last game was slated for May 18 against Ripon Christian, after The News went to press. They expected to win it, said their coach.
"Ripon Christian is stronger this season than last. But we haven't lost to them in many years," said Graham.
It has been a break-even season for the varsity squad, he added. The Lady Bruins have defeated everyone except the three top teams, Hughson, Patterson and Escalon.
