Sports action keeps RHS teams busy
Mahaila
Senior Mahaila Guzman lets fly with a pitch in non-league varsity softball on Tuesday, March 19. The team gave up only a couple of runs in the game, defeating Stone Ridge Christian, 5-2. League play begins this week.

It was busy for Riverbank High spring athletes both on and off campus this past week, and it was to continue, even though this week is Spring Break for students. The spring season is in full swing, with several league contests already in the books for most squads.

 

Lady Bruin Softball

Riverbank girls kept up their winning ways, with a 5-2 victory over the visiting Lady Knights of Stone Ridge Christian High School in Merced in their last preseason tune-up contest. Final score was 5-2, on Tuesday, March 19.

For this week, they’re set to start Trans-Valley League play at Escalon on Thursday, March 28 and play in the NorCal Classic Tournament this weekend.

 

Bruin Baseball

Boys action on the diamond last week consisted of two games against Escalon, home on Tuesday, and away on Thursday. They lost both Trans-Valley League games, and both were run-shortened losses via the 10-run rule. The Bruins fell 23-2 at home, and 11-1 on the Cougars’ turf.

This week, the boys were to be at Ripon on Tuesday and host Ripon on Thursday.

 

Bruin Volleyball

RHS boys volleyball fell to the Livingston Wolves in three games, 14-25, 7-25 and 13-25, in a TVL match at home on Tuesday, March 19.

 

Co-Ed Track & Field

Bruin runners, jumpers and throwers hosted Ripon on Wednesday, March 20.

Maya Guzman, who both runs track and plays softball, placed second in the 100m, setting a new personal record, as well as a third place in the 300m hurdles, a first place in the long jump and the triple jump.

Junior Jessica Vigil won the 1600m with a time of 5:48.20. She also won the 3200m race.

Those on the team that qualified competed in the County Clash in Oakdale this past Friday.

 

Co-Ed Tennis

Both boys and girls competed against Millennium High on Friday, March 22, and Livingston before that, on Tuesday last week. They were to play at Hughson on March 26 and host the Escalon Cougars in action scheduled for Thursday, March 28.

 

Bruin Golf

Boys golf competed in the latest TVL Tournament at the Oakdale Golf and Country Club, hosted by Escalon last week, and is scheduled to play in the next TVL tourney, being hosted by Livingston on March 27. Each team in league hosts one tournament at their home course during the season.
