Sports Award Winners Announced

Riverbank High School honored its fall sports award winners recently at its awards night.

For the section championship girls' cross country team, Gina Arnold won the Coach's Award, Angelica Duarte was Most Improved, Maritza Garcia won the All Bruin award, and Brettany Harrison was deemed Most Inspirational. MVP was Bianca Melchor, and she was also chosen as Scholar Athlete.

The boys' cross country team had Isaac Montoya make All Bruin status and Robbie Searway was Trooper of the Year, while Omar Fernandez was named Outstanding 2004 Cross Country Runner.

The football team, which made playoffs for the third straight year, saw Jon Blount named Offensive Player of the Year. Nick Cota was Lineman of the Year, and Ben DeYoung was Defensive Player of the Year, as well as Scholar Athlete. Michael Dougherty was named MVP, Tory McCuistion was Newcomer of the Year and Ted Sugiura was All Bruin. Quarterback Daniel DeCroix was named Special Teams MVP.

For volleyball, Courtney Brock was Most Improved, Monica Cardenas was named All Bruin and Kelly Clancey was Most Inspirational. Sonia Naranjo earned the Scholar Athlete award.

Antonio Vigil was named Best Defender for Bruin soccer, and also Scholar Athlete. Francisco de Los Santos was All Bruin, and Lisandro Reyes was named Most Versatile Player.

For girls' golf, Katie Gettling won the Jump for Joy Award, and Laura Coker took the No More Tears Award. Karina Vizcaino won the Whiplash Swing Award, and Ashlyn Reed was All Bruin as well as Scholar Athlete.
