June 6 — Recreational Ocean Salmon season opens from Oregon/California State Line to Horse Mountain. June 6 — Weaving Yesterdays History Series Virtual Event, 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Elkhorn Slough Ecological Reserve naturalists and historians will host a Facebook Live series exploring the cultural heritage of Elkhorn Slough. At 1 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month participants will hear the backstory on a new location around the area. June 6-14 — The Seventh Annual California Invasive Species Action Week (CISAW) takes place June 6-14. CISAW aims to increase public awareness of invasive species issues and promote public participation in the fight against California’s invasive species and their impacts on our natural resources. This year we are focusing on online events and activities you can do at home. Listen to a webinar, map invasive species in your local park, watch a video on invasive species research or play some invasive species games. June 9 —The California Dungeness Crab Fishing Gear Working Group will hold a public meeting to provide information about their assessment of marine life entanglement risk, including any Working Group recommendations to the CDFW Director regarding the June 15 risk determination. There will not be a designated opportunity for public comment during the meeting, however feedback can be shared directly with CDFW via email to whalesafefisheries@wildlife.ca.gov. June 9 — CDFW-OSPR California Oil Spill Study and Evaluation Program Monthly Seminar Series, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., “Development of an Acute Sediment Toxicity Experiment to Inform Natural Resource Damage Assessments (NRDA) using the Sandy Beach Amphipod Megalochestia pugettensis.” CDFW-OSPR’s Scientist Dr. Bryand Duke will present some of his research regarding injury assessment of shorelines. June 11 — California Wildlife Conservation Board, Wildlife Corridor and Fish Passage, Proposal Solicitation Notice (PSN) Closes. PSN priorities include projects to construct, repair, modify, or remove transportation infrastructure or water resources infrastructure to improve passage for wildlife or fish. All applicants must complete the online pre-application by 5 p.m. at wcb.ca.gov/programs/habitat-enhancement/app. WCB will then invite select applicants to submit full proposals. June 13 — Invasive Plant Identification Virtual Event, noon to 12:30 p.m. Elkhorn Slough’s reserve naturalists will host a Facebook Live tour of the Visitor Center’s native wildlife garden and guide participants through identifying some common invasive weeds. June 24 — Shared Habitat Alliance for Recreational Enhancement (SHARE) Access Permit Applications on Sale for Fall Elk Hunts. Ninety-five SHARE elk tags will be available during 69 elk hunts offered through the SHARE program. An $11.50 non-refundable application fee (plus handling fees) will be charged for each hunt choice. June 29 — Risk Assessment and Mitigation Program Public Hearing and Close of Public Comment Period, 10 a.m. to noon. CDFW will hold a virtual public hearing on proposed regulations implementing the Risk Assessment and Mitigation Program.
