Stranded Players Take Bruins Down, 4-1

Riverbank made some hits, but left too many runners stranded in losing a home baseball game, 4-1, to Hughson on Wednesday.

"Andy Villalobos pitched pretty well. The score was 0-0 when he came out, and Jason Canada took over in the fifth," said Bruin coach Mike Carrigg. "But our offense was weak. We left the bases loaded with one out in the first and stranded eight or nine runners in the whole game."

Riverbank scored its only run in the fifth inning. But Hughson tied it up in the same inning and came back with three more runs in the seventh.

At bat, Kyle Rotan collected three hits in four visits to the plate and Villalobos cracked out a double.

Then in Friday's home game against Patterson, Riverbank dropped behind by 3-0 early on, tied it up in the seventh inning, but was unlucky enough to lose, 4-3, on a walk-in run.

" " Canada had been pitching great for four innings, " said Carrigg. "But with the bases loaded, two outs and the score tied 3-3, I brought in Zac Swanson and Zac walked in the go-ahead run."

Riverbank got one more chance to catch up in the seventh but couldn't get the big hit it needed.

"We gave them the runs on errors and walks rather than hits," Carrigg added. "There were three errors at third base."

Now 4-6 in the Trans Valley League, Riverbank is scheduled to play Ripon at home today, May 4, and Hilmar at home on Friday.
