Wielding their rackets with skill, the Bruin tennis players defeated Ripon Christian, 5-2, on Wednesday, and then postponed their Friday match against Livingston to May 3.

In singles, Antonio Vigil won 6-4, 7-5; Kevin Keo won 2-6, 6-3, 6-0; Amber Nickels lost 0-6, 5-7; and Allyson McHugh lost 4-6, 3-6.

In doubles, David Unruh and Kyle Mitchell won 6-1, 6-3; Gabby Zamora and Marlene Lizarraga won 6-3, 6-2; and Colton Huggins and Leslie Thissen won 7-5, 2-6, 6-4.

"The girls doubles looked good but their opponents were weak,'" said Riverbank coach Bruce Edwards. "In boys singles, Keo was down in the first set and came back strongly to win. He figured out what he had to do and stayed focu thatsed."

Edwards said Nickels played hard despite losing, and is showing the steady improvement and tenacity she needs in the girls' number one spot.

Thissen and Huggins had to play three sets, but finally won their mixed doubles.

"The doubles players have a tendency to fade from the net. I've talked to them about that," he said.

Following Monday's match against Livingston and Tuesday's encounter with Patterson, the Bruins will play in the League Meet set for this Friday and Saturday starting at 9 a.m. at the Sportsmen of Stanislaus (SOS) Club in Modesto. The singles matches are on Friday, and the doubles on Saturday.
