There was no joking around on campus at Riverbank High School last Friday, even though it was April 1. A threat scrawled on a bathroom wall caused a lockdown at the school that reportedly lasted from about 11 a.m. until dismissal time, about 3 p.m.
The school had canceled the home baseball game scheduled against Escalon that afternoon, but the Livingston tennis teams had arrived just before school let out, so Coach Bruce Edwards put together an off-campus match, since the RHS grounds were supposed to be cleared.
He arranged for a few parents and assistant coaches to take the few RHS players who were available down to the city tennis courts, which are next to the Cardozo Middle School campus, on the corner of Seventh Street and Atchison/Highway 108.
The only other problem was that several of the Bruins boys’ and girls’ team members had gone home right after school, not knowing that the match was being moved off campus.
A few of the individual matches, as well as some doubles were played, but the two teams are working together to see when and if the remaining matches can be rescheduled. Both number one seeds, Ward Choeb, for the boys, and Monica Hernandez for the girls, were victorious in singles matches.

The Bruins are also scheduled to host Ripon High on Wednesday, April 6 at 4 p.m. They’ll play on the road at Ripon on Friday, April 8, and Modesto Christian next Wednesday, April 13.
