Wins will never come easy in the challenging Trans-Valley League and that fact is holding true as the Riverbank High girls varsity basketball team's struggles continue in league play.

Riverbank opened recent TVL action with a solid effort against the Escalon Cougars at Escalon High, but the Cougars' stifling full court pressure proved to be too much for the Lady Bruins to contain.

Riverbank was able to marginally get things going early in the second half, but Escalon's game-opening press gave the Cougars a solid advantage that they did not forfeit. Escalon took the 47-22 win, opening a three game stretch for the Lady Bruins that also saw them go on the road to take on Modesto Christian High.

The Crusaders wasted little time flexing their muscle over the young Lady Bruin squad, jumping out to a convincing 60-9 lead after just 16 minutes of action. Modesto Christian cruised to victory, keeping their mark perfect at home on the season as well as in TVL play where the squad is 4-0.

Riverbank put together its most solid outing when the squad played host to the Hughson Huskies in a rare Saturday game, Jan. 31, but even the teams' improved play was not enough to pick off the Huskies, as Hughson took home the TVL victory with a 52-23 win.

Riverbank was able to get solid play from Alyssa Adams who chipped in eight points in the Modesto Christian loss to pace the Lady Bruins as well as the team-high seven points in the squad's loss to Escalon.

Adams will need to continue to contribute as the girls work toward a win, with the production of Jenni Manriquez, Stephanie Romero and Jessica Hudson all continuing to improve as the TVL season unfolds.

The schedule for the Lady Bruins will not get any easier as they prepare for a pair of trips to Ripon to take on the Ripon Christian Knights (Feb. 5) followed by another challenging visit to Ripon High to face the Indians (Feb. 9).

Both contests are scheduled for 7:30 tip off times.
