Two Nights Set Aside To Honor Top Performers

Top athletes at Riverbank High School were recognized at the Spring Sports Awards Night and Senior Awards Night on May 17 and 18.

In baseball, Adan Mercado and Zac Swanson shared the Most Valuable Player Award and Mercado was named Outstanding Senior Athlete. Chris Bigelow was chosen All Bruin, a scholar athlete, an Army scholar athlete and RHS scholar athlete.

In softball, Megan Medrano was named Outstanding Senior Athlete, All Bruin, and given the Bruin Athletic Achievement Award.

Tessa Lozano won the Courageous Leader Award in softball, and Barbara Carreiro was chosen the Most Improved.

.In boys track and field competition, Ben DeYoung was All Bruin and a scholar athlete; Alex Nabors, a TVL Scholar Athlete and RHS Scholar Athlete; Brandon Parker, Most Valuable Runner; and Ralph Stevens, Most Valuable Field Event Athlete.

In girls track, Brittany Harrison was named Most Valuable Runner; Dennice Tafolla, the All Bruin; and Kasey Wool, Most Valuable Field Event Athlete and a scholar athlete.

For soccer, Alex Beniez was named Most Improved; Serena Palmer, the Ultimate Team Player; and Sonia Silveira, All Bruin.

In tennis, Katy Hughes was TVL Scholar Athlete, RHS Scholar Athlete, Scholar Athlete, Army Scholar Athlete and Dale Lackey Scholarship winner. Javier Contreras was named All Bruin; and Justin Jarvis, Most Inspirational and scholar athlete; and Matt Santin Muller, Most Improved.

For golf, Anthony Chaidez received the 2U For Most Improved Award; and Patrick Dean, the All Bruin prize.

In dance, Tania Zamora was named All Bruin and Most Inspirational. Angelica Vallejo won the Sopresa Sopresa Dance Award, and Gaby Vigil was named All Bruin.

Among other awards, Angela Lopez was named Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete; Nathan Lyday, Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete; Alma Martinez, the Coaches Service Award; and Liza Mila, the Richard Lee Thiel Memorial Sportmanship Award.
