For the first time in many years, the Riverbank girls gained a berth in the basketball playoffs by defeating Livingston, 40-37, although they lost to Ripon on a score of 50-46. Their league season ended at 9-5.

The playoff game was scheduled to be played in Riverbank against Lincoln High School of Lodi on Tuesday evening, too late for the results be recorded this week.

In defeating Livingston, the varsity Bruins started flat, They lost the first quarter, 8-5, but recovered on a 12-8 score in the second and by 14-5 in the third. This took the game, despite Livingston's 10-9 win in the last quarter.

"We played great defense, but our shots were not falling," said Bruin coach Scott Erickson. " We started all our seniors in the game because it was their last week."

Sonia Naranjo led the scoring with 16 points, followed by Megan Medrano with 10 and Liz Mila with eight.

The Ripon game, although a loss, was exciting to watch.

"We let the pressure get to us too often, and our defense was not playing its best. We got behind in the third quarter and were never able to come back," said Erickson.

Riverbank led the first quarter, 13-8, but lost the second by 10-9, the third, 17-13, and the last, 15-11.

Angela Lopez was the top scorer for Riverbank, with 12 points, followed by Medrano with 11, and Monica Cardenas with eight.
