Varsity Girl hoopsters Split week's game

Riverbank girls split their varsity basketball slate, defeating Ripon by 53-48 on Tuesday, but then losing to Patterson, 48-41, on Thursday.

That brings their win-loss record in the Trans Valley League to 6-2.

Playing on their home court, Bruin cagers yielded their first quarter against Ripon, 16-13, but came back to tie the score 26-26 at halftime, and then shot ahead with a 16-8 third quarter.

Megan Medrano posted all of 24 points for the highest Bruin scorer. She was followed by Angela Lopez, with eight points; Liz Mila, with six; and Monica Cardenas, Janet Moya and Sonia Naranjo with five each.

Lopez shot two of Riverbank's three 3-pointers, and Naranjo the other.

Riverbank sank eight out of 19 attempts from the foul line.

In another home game against Patterson, Riverbank was leading, 27-22, at halftime but lost the third quarter, 8-5, and then lost the game itself with an 18-9 deficit in the final period.

Lopez led the scoring in this game with 16 points. Medrano contributed 13 points, while Mila, six, and Cardenas and Naranjo, three each.

Naranjo, Medrano and Lopez hit one 3-pointer each.

Riverbank went nine out of 17 at the free throw line.
