After a thrilling run, Riverbank girls basketball ended its postseason play on the home court on Tuesday, March 4. They were one of several teams in action for the Bruins this past week, the last one from the winter season, as spring sports burst forth.
Lady Bruin Basketball
The varsity girls team hosted the first round of the California Interscholastic Federation’s Division IV Playoff, the NorCal Tournament, on Tuesday, March 4, welcoming Castilleja from Palo Alto. The Lady Bruins entered the game ranked 217th in the state while the Lady Gators were ranked 86th.
In terms of seeding for the NorCals, Riverbank was the number four seed in the division, so they got to host the number 13 seed Castilleja squad.
Riverbank ended the first half ahead 22-18, a position they have become accustomed to, though with a pretty low score, but ended the game with a heartbreaking loss, 44-43, ending their season. Riverbank was the winner of the Mother Lode League title, took second in the Section tournament and advanced to the NorCals; they compiled a 25-6 overall record.
Castilleja also won their second-round game on March 6 in NorCals, but then fell short in the regional semifinals on March 8, finishing their season.
Lady Bruin Softball
Riverbank hosted Stone Ridge Christian High School on Tuesday, falling 23-4, in preseason play. On Thursday, March 6, they were supposed to play at home against Escalon, but the Wednesday rain left puddles on the RHS field, so they played on the road, losing 5-0 to the Lady Cougars. They were scheduled to host Kimball High School from Tracy on Monday.
Bruin Baseball
RHS baseballers are scheduled to travel to Angels Camp on Friday this week, to take on Bret Harte’s Bullfrogs in a conference game, weather permitting.
Co-Ed Track & Field
Riverbank runners, jumpers and throwers were scheduled to host a scrimmage against Hilmar on March 11, and are supposed to participate in the Frosh/Soph Showcase at Hughson High School on Friday, March 14, again, weather permitting.
Bruin Boys Volleyball
The volleyball team hosted Delhi on Friday, March 7, winning the first game, 25-22, but then fell to the Hawks in the next three, 22-25, 24-26 and 23-25, to take a 3-1 loss. They’re set to play at Ripon Christian on March 12.
Co-Ed Bruin Tennis
Riverbank was to host Linden on March 11, and is scheduled to travel to Tuolumne County to take on Summerville on March 12, if the match is not rained out.
Bruin Boys Golf
The golfers had a scrimmage set in Escalon for March 11, and are to host Big Valley Christian at the Jack Tone Golf Course on Thursday, March 13. Like most outdoor sporting events this week, weather could play havoc with the schedule.
