Sweeping to a win over Livingston, the Lady Bruins saw host Escalon do the same to them on Thursday, as the Riverbank squad ended the week with a split of its league contests.

At Livingston for the Tuesday, Oct. 5 game, Riverbank defeated the Wolves 25-23, 25-20, 25-9.

After battling in the first two games, the Lady Bruins made some adjustments that insured the victory.

"We just started getting our serves over," coach Lisa Mila said of the easy win in the third and deciding game of the match. "They missed a lot in the first two games, we made a lot of errors."

Staying steady, though, the girls persevered for the victory.

Julissa Perez had seven kills, Monica Cardenas added seven digs and five aces. Kelly Clancey had two blocks, Amber Nickels notched 20 assists.

Thursday, the girls were on the road again, this time traveling to Escalon.

"We made them earn their points," Mila said.

Escalon won in three games, 25-12, 25-17, 25-9 contest, though there was plenty of back-and-forth action between the two squads. Riverbank took an early lead in game one before the host squad regrouped and settled down.

"We still make a lot of mistakes but we're working on them," said Mila.

Top players in the match with Escalon included Sonia Naranjo with 10 digs and five kills, Monica Cardenas and Chelsi Walls with one ace each.

"Courtney Brock had two blocks, Amber Nickels had 11 assists," Mila added. "We're now 1-5 in league and overall we are 4-8."

The Lady Bruins will be on the home court this week, hosting Ripon on Thursday.
