FATIMA 10-25
Riverbank senior Fatima Gonzales handles a serve in the first game of girls volleyball action last Wednesday on the home court. It was the final game of the Lady Bruins season, also the last game for senior players.

The girls volleyball season concluded with a home match last Wednesday, while Bruin football finishes up its season this week on Friday, also playing at home.

Lady Bruin Volleyball

The varsity girls volleyball team hosted Ripon on Wednesday, Oct. 18, for the last match of the 2023 Trans-Valley League season.

It was also the final contest in the high school careers of the 11 senior players on the team.

The Riverbank Boosters organized a Senior Night recognition of the players, introducing them and their families to the crowd prior to the game. They also honored Ripon senior girls.

Unfortunately, Riverbank fell to the Lady Indians in three straight games, 14-25, 14-25, and 8-25.

Bruin Football

The football team is set to finish up its season with a final home game on Friday, Oct. 27. They’ll be taking on the Mira Loma High School Matadors, from Sacramento.

The varsity game is set to begin at 7 p.m. Beforehand, Riverbank Boosters has scheduled a Senior Recognition Night, to introduce both the football seniors and those of the cheer squad, along with their families.

Riverbank’s football teams have been between league alignments this year, and their games are thus classified as “independent,” so there will be no league playoff games.

Lady Bruin Golf

RHS girl golfers have finished up their TVL play, followed by the season-ending tournament.

“Our end of the year tournament went okay,” Coach Ismael Mercado reported. “We were hoping to play a bit better but I’m still very proud of the girls. We finished fourth in the TVL.”

That tourney was on Oct. 16.

“On a brighter side, we had two girls qualify as individuals for the Division 5 section tournament (that was scheduled for Monday, Oct. 23) at Manteca Park Golf Course,” said Mercado.

Both Mahaila Guzman and Desirae Vargas were to play in that event and both also made second team All-League for the TVL.

“Our whole team was made up of seniors with the exception of just one freshman. Very proud of this group and their dedication all season long,” Mercado said.

Co-Ed Cross Country

Riverbank runners were to compete in the TVL Championship meet on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 25 at River Bluff Park in Ceres.
