Volleyball Team Fights Hard Against Patterson

The week's high spot for the Riverbank varsity volleyball team was a hard-fought battle against Patterson, whom they forced into four games, although Riverbank finally lost.

"I'm proud of our girls. They played together and they fought until the end," said Bruin coach Lisa Mila.

In Tuesday's match, Patterson won the first game, 25-18, and the second, 25-13. But the Tigers lost the third game at 22-25, so they had to play a fourth, which they won, 25-22.

Kelly Clancey scored nine kills for Riverbank; Chelsi Walls, two aces; and Amber Nickles, 20 assists.

In digs, Courtney Brock posted 13. Brock and Walls each scored one block.

Going against Hilmar on Thursday, the Bruins were hampered by the flu, and were therefore difficult to "pump up," said Mila.

"But we did what we could against a very good team. We were having to substitute continually because the girls were not feeling well."

Julissa Perez won her coach's praise for playing well in multiple positions, even including that of setter.

The Bruins are now 1-10 in league with their sole victory over Livingston. This week they go against Ripon Christian on Tuesday and tackle Livingston at home on Thursday.
