Yes, there was joy in the ‘Bank, as the volleyball girls closed out their home season last week and they wowed the crowd with a solid comeback win. Bruin football will finish its 2018 season with a final home game on Friday, Oct. 19.

Lady Bruin Volleyball

Last Wednesday, Oct. 10, the varsity girls volleyball team posted a solid win in a Trans-Valley League match against the visiting Lady Wolves of Livingston. It was hard fought, putting a fitting end on the home season for the three seniors on this year’s squad.

It almost didn’t happen, though.

In the past, when the Lady Bruins have found tough going in early sets, they have been unable to battle all the way back, often losing 3-0 or 3-1.

In this particular match, however, they found the strength to fight back from a two sets to none deficit, sweeping the last three.

Riverbank fell 23-25 and 20-25 in the first two sets, clearly in the fight but just a little short. In the third set, they stretched to a 26-24 win, finishing up by two, as is required in volleyball.

From there, it was downhill for the Lady Wolves, with Riverbank taking the win with a 25-15 victory in the fourth set and finishing 15-8 in the final. The fifth set of a match is played to 15 points.

Before the action started, the three seniors on the team, Gisselle Caratachea, Andrea Ruiz and Alysia Beecroft, were recognized at their final home game of the 2018 volleyball season. The Lady Bruins were to close out the year on the road at Hilmar on Monday, Oct. 15.

Earlier last week, on Monday, Oct. 8, the girls traveled to Escalon to take on the Lady Cougars, falling in three straight sets, 25-14, 25-13 and 25-10.

Bruin Football

Last Friday, the football team traveled to Livingston to take on the Wolves, with the varsity going down to a 43-0 defeat in the Oct. 12 contest. They’ll host the Yellowjackets from Hilmar on Friday at Angelo Novi Stadium in their season finale.

Golf, Cross Country

Neither team actually has a ‘home’ course, and both the linkster ladies and the co-ed runners are facing league tournaments at the end of their seasons.

Girls golf was to go to the Valley-Foothill League Tournament at Micke Grove in Stockton on Monday, Oct. 15, with their annual Fall Pro-Am set for Wednesday, Oct. 17 at the Escalon Golf Course. Division Sectionals and Masters Tournaments are coming up the next two Mondays.

The cross country Bruin teams will be facing their TVL Championships on Thursday, Oct. 25, with the Sub-Section and Section meets coming up the first two Saturdays in November.
