Incoming Oakdale High School senior Ryan Wells is accomplishing big things this summer. Wells qualified for the 75th annual National High School Finals Rodeo in tie-down roping and team roping events.

Coming up from July 16 through 22, Wells will be taking his talents to Gillette, Wyoming. There, he will be representing the California State Provincial National High School Rodeo Team.

With nearly 2,000 contestants from the United States, Australia, Mexico, Canada and New Zealand, Wells will be looking to get his share of $150,000 in prizes, $150,000 in added money and $375,000 in college scholarships. To accomplish his goal Wells must finish in the top 20, based on their combined times and scores from the first two rounds. The Saturday, July 22 competition will be televised nationally on RFD-TV from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The entire event will also be available on www.thecowboychannel.com.

It will not be all business for Wells and the other athletes, however, as they will also be treated to volleyball, dance, church services sponsored by Golden Spur Ministries and shopping at the National High School Finals Rodeo tradeshow.
