Preseason contests continue to keep Riverbank High School athletes busy for their winter campaign. Seeing action over the past week were the boys and girls basketball teams along with the boys and girls soccer squads.

BOYS BASKETBALL

A Dec. 17 game against Pacheco was a 55-42 win for the Bruin varsity hoop boys, and they also defeated Ben Holt College Prep Academy, taking that Dec. 22 game by a 68-55 final.

The boys improved to 7-5 overall with the two wins this past week.

They are scheduled to play at Turlock Christian on Dec. 29 at 6:30 p.m.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

After winning their Dec. 15 game by a 55-44 final over Enochs, the varsity basketball girls then hit a tough stretch. They fell in three straight non-league contests, losing 34-31 to Patterson on Dec. 18, dropping a 45-38 decision to Ponderosa on Dec. 19; and falling to Los Banos on Dec. 20, 73-48.

The girls will look to return to the win column as they take part in the Pitman Holiday Classic Tournament, starting tourney play on Dec. 26, facing off in a 4:30 p.m. contest against Mt. Diablo.

BOYS SOCCER

A couple of ties and a couple of wins marked a busy week for the Bruin varsity boys on the pitch.

On Dec. 16, they faced off with Jefferson of Daly City and ended in a 1-1 tie. They were at River Islands in Lathrop on Dec. 17, crafting a 3-1 win. On Dec. 19, the team exploded for 10 goals in a shutout 10-0 victory over Stone Ridge Christian of Merced. The Buin boys tallied three goals in the first half and hit the net seven times in the second half. They then played at Liberty in Madera on Dec. 22 ending in a 2-2 tie.

GIRLS SOCCER

Only one game was on the schedule for the Lady Bruins, as they took a 3-1 loss to Stone Ridge Christian on Dec. 18. Their next game is scheduled for Jan. 2 at Hilmar.
