Riverbank High School’s winter sports teams are still in scrimmage mode, with the regular league season not set to start until next year, and team rosters and attendant issuing of jersey numbers remains in flux. Coaches have said that league rules prohibit the issuing of rosters/jerseys until the regular pre-season, so the sports teams expect to firm up things in December, as competition becomes more formal.
Bruin Basketball
Riverbank varsity boys hosted Sierra’s Timberwolves from Manteca in scrimmage play, with coaches refereeing, on Tuesday, Nov. 19.
On Friday, they were to play at Enochs High School in Modesto. It’s possible they were playing against Riverbank kids on the Eagles’ team, since students who live in the Crossroads are part of the Sylvan School District, who then go to Modesto high schools.
This week, the Bruins were to participate in the Foundation Game, this time at Johansen High in Modesto, on Monday after The News went to press. It’s a fundraising game where varsity teams participate and referees and coaches donate their time.
All Riverbank teams were to travel to Delhi on Tuesday this week before taking Turkey day and Friday off. On Saturday, Nov. 30, they’re expecting to play at Waterford, and host Sonora on Tuesday, Dec. 3, with games for all three teams.
Lady Bruin Basketball
Girls basketball was to travel to Johansen High School on Monday, Nov. 25, then host Sierra from Manteca on Wednesday, Nov. 27, before their holiday break. They’ll be back on the home court on Monday, Dec. 2, hosting Ceres, then travel to Merced to take on Golden Valley on Thursday, Dec. 5.
Bruin Soccer
The Lady Bruins hosted Waterford in a scrimmage match on Nov. 19, and were expecting to travel to Johansen this week on Monday. On Friday and Saturday, the varsity is set to compete in the Sierra Tournament in Manteca.
For the boys, they were set to play in Elk Grove at Valley High School this Monday, and host Enochs on Nov. 27.
Next week, they’ll be on the road to Linden on Monday and Tuesday, they’ll be at Lathrop High School. They’ll host the McNair Eagles from Stockton on Wednesday, Dec. 4.
Riverbank Wrestlers
Bruin grapplers reportedly continue to work out, expecting to host a three-way meet on Wednesday, Dec. 18.
