The YMCA of Stanislaus County is taking registration for a new Adaptive Aquatics program that will run July 13 to Aug. 19 and cater to the needs of families with children who have disabilities.

In this program, parents will work one-in-one with their child in a therapeutic pool under the guidance of an adapted PE specialist.

Children will develop skills to meet their individual needs. Parents will develop skills to help their child continue to benefit from water exercises after the program ends.

The two-day per week classes are set for Tuesdays and Thursdays with 45-minute sessions at 2:30 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. in the YMCA building at 2700 McHenry Avenue in Modesto.

The cost is $35. Current YMCA membership is not required for participation.

For more information, contact Bruce Davey at 209-571-7744 or Rey Hill at 209-578-YMCA.

Davey will run the program. An adaptive aquatics PE teacher for many years, he has coached Special Olympics swim teams and coordinated special needs programs at California State University, Chico.
