Summer officially ended for Riverbank students, teachers, staff and administrators this past week, as classes officially returned to the hallowed halls of schools across the city on Thursday, Aug. 7.
Teachers on all the Riverbank campuses returned to their classrooms on Monday that week, Aug. 4, to get ready for the new year. Staff arrived at Mesa Verde Elementary, California Avenue Elementary, the Riverbank Language Academy, Cardozo Middle School, Adelante High School and Riverbank High School, with students showing up on campus later in the week, on Thursday for opening day.
Those looking for parking spots on the Riverbank High School lots, both east and west of the campus, were hindered a bit, as construction continues on the solar panel parking structures there. What would normally be parking is enclosed by fences protecting the work area underneath.
Authorities noted that this year’s batch of brand-new freshmen totaled 256 students, while the student body at RHS totaled 843 on the official first day of the 2025-26 school year.
