Downtown serves as hub for city market activities
R kid play
New blocks and shapes were available for youngsters to play with as the Riverbank Tuesday Night Market hosted the last evening of its two-month season on July 29. Held on Santa Fe Street, between Third and Fourth streets, the weekly event filled that area as well as the Plaza del Rio Park with food tents, crafts and commercial booths, along with food trucks, even fresh fruit and vegetables available for purchase. Participants, as well as shoppers, celebrated Riverbank’s final summer Tuesday Night Market the last week of July, with a full slate of food tents, booths and food trucks lining Santa Fe Street from Third to Fourth downtown.

Crowds of shoppers filled the area, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., continuing even as the sun set and darkness began to rule.

There were, once again, all kinds of food tents, commercial booths, crafts, produce for sale and food trucks available all evening. The popular market night likely benefitted from cooler than usual summer weather, encouraging people to get outdoors.

Options for hungry market attendees included Mexican and Chinese food, doughnuts, hamburgers and hot dogs, along with funnel cakes, kettle corn, lemonade, and shaved ice.

Most evenings during the season were mild, with an occasional triple digit day, but the quality and quantity of vendors in attendance remained constant throughout the weeks.

All is not lost for those wishing to continue to shop in a ‘market’ environment, however, since the downtown Saturday Night Market remains operating on its every-other-week schedule, through October, including the next one coming up on Saturday, Aug. 9.
