While a slow moving train crosses Patterson Road recently, traffic backs up on both sides of the tracks, waiting to go through. Signs have been posted on Patterson Road next to the Santa Fe Railroad crossing there, informing passing motorists that it will be closed next week for some construction work.

Riverbank Public Works Director Mike Riddell couldn’t confirm if the railroad construction had any relation to planned projects the city has coming up.

It is scheduled to begin early this year.

The crossing is scheduled to be closed from Sunday, Jan. 14, through Thursday, Jan. 18. Motorists are being advised to detour around the area by taking First Street out to Atchison/Highway 108.

In addition to widening and possible realignment of Patterson Road between the crossing and Claus Road, Riddell has said the city plans to install stop lights at the Roselle-Patterson intersection. He has said they’ll be coordinated with the BNSF crossing guards.
