Read Across Riverbank Continues Through Month

Riverbank Unified School District is going wild for reading this month with activities for all students to participate in from March 2 through March 27. The literacy celebration includes a spirit week, wild for reading poster contest, guest reader week and After School Program literacy celebration on Friday, March 27.

Dr. Seuss’s birthday on March 2 kicked off the festivities at schools throughout the country. The yearly observance was created by the NEA (National Education Association) in 1997 to encourage the youth to be excited about reading books. The first Read Across America was celebrated the following year on March 2, 1998.

Theodor Seuss Geisel, also known as Dr. Seuss, was an American children’s author, animator, poet, illustrator, book publisher, and a political cartoonist. He was born on March 2, 1904 and is best known for authoring and illustrating over 60 children’s books.
