The investigation continues into a double homicide outside Riverbank, with the discovery of two bodies on property in the 5900 block of Claribel Road on Thursday morning, Oct. 12.

Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene when a man stopped at the Riverbank Police Services station in downtown Riverbank, indicating a family member who lives on site reported finding a body early Thursday. A second body was also later discovered.

The two victims were identified as Alfredo Mercado Lomeli, 32, and Martin Alvarez Jr., 24, both of Oakdale. Their identities were released on Friday.

Sheriff’s Department spokesman Deputy Royjindar Singh said the men were found near a shop on the property, behind the home. The location is off Langworth Road, east of Riverbank.

Authorities are not releasing much information since it is an ongoing investigation. Singh said the cause of death was not being released; at press time they had not identified any suspects in the case. Authorities were also looking in the possibility that a marijuana grow located on the property may have been a factor in the crime.

Anyone that may be able to offer information is asked to contact lead detective Marissa Wyatt at 209-525-7091.
