Multilingual “Our Town” hits Delta College stage
Our town

Described by many academics as the greatest American play ever written, “Our Town” hits the Delta College stage with performances April 26 through 28 and May 3 through 5.

Told both in English and Spanish, “Our Town” follows the Webb and Gibbs families as their children fall in love, marry and eventually – in one of the most famous scenes in American theater – die.

Narrated by a stage manager and performed with minimal props and sets, “Our Town” depicts the small town of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire, through three acts: “Daily Life,” “Love and Marriage,” and “Death and Eternity.”

In the next step for a play that Wilder conceived from the beginning as a play about everywhere, Delta Drama presents this timeless story in English and Spanish. The play is infused with layers of culture and community, embracing more of the diversity of our contemporary time and celebrating Grover’s Corners as an international address.

Friday and Saturday shows, April 26 and 27, May 3 and 4, are at 7 p.m., with the Sunday matinees, April 28 and May 5, scheduled for 2 p.m.

All performances will be in the Tillie Lewis Theatre on the campus of San Joaquin Delta College, 5151 Pacific Ave., Stockton.

Tickets are available at deltadrama.com, at the Delta College Box Office, or by calling (209) 954-5110. “Our Town” is recommended for all ages. Ticket prices are $7 for general admission, 18 and older; $5 for students, up to 17 years old.

The Delta Drama Program believes in the importance of providing to the college community a Drama curriculum that develops knowledge, skills and competencies necessary for transfer to the upper division level as well as fulfilling AA Degree general education requirements.

The Drama Program provides a rigorous, disciplined, and integrated curriculum designed to meet the vocational demands of the theatre profession. The Actor Training program is a two-year course of study in which students who have successfully auditioned can concentrate their efforts in rigorous acting classes three times a week in the first year and five times a week in the second year, while also studying stagecraft in separate technical classes.
