Gasoline prices in Modesto have risen 12.6 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $5.97 per gallon as of Monday, May 11. That’s according to GasBuddy’s survey of 201 stations in Modesto.
Prices in Modesto are 30.4 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand $1.16/gallon higher than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has increased 0.2 cents compared to a week ago and stands at $5.62 per gallon.
Based on GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto was priced at $5.45/gallon on May 11 while the most expensive was $6.79, a difference of $1.34/gallon. The lowest price in the state was $4.49 while the highest was $9.79, a difference of $5.30/gallon.
The national average price of gasoline has risen 5.1 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $4.48/gallon. The national average is up 37.3 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands $1.40/gallon higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.
“Average gasoline prices declined in just six states over the last week, led by the Great Lakes region, where motorists in states like Michigan and Ohio saw prices fall sharply, while Indiana experienced even steeper relief after the state temporarily waived both its excise and use taxes on gasoline,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $5.89/gallon, up 10.6 cents per gallon from $5.79; Oakland - $6.11, up 0.8 cents per gallon from $6.10; and San Jose - $6.08, down 1.5 cents per gallon from last week’s $6.09/gallon.
Historical gasoline prices in Modesto and the national average going back five years show the highest Modesto price of $5.59 per gallon was recorded on May 11, 2022 and the lowest was $3.98 in 2021. Highest U.S. average on May 11 was $4.41 per gallon in 2022; lowest was $3.00 in 2021.
