LEAD, a statewide project designed to empower and activate the voices of people affected by behavioral health challenges, is hosting a series of listening sessions beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 3.

Additional sessions will follow on Feb. 4 and 5.

Each will deal with a different segment of area residents and the goal is to gather input on existing mental health services available.

LEAD stands for Lived Experience, Advocacy, Diversity and is a program of the California Association of Mental Health Peer-Run Organizations, in partnership with Peer Recovery Services. Also helping coordinate the sessions is the Wellness Center of San Joaquin County.

On Wednesday, Feb. 3 from 10 a.m. to noon, the listening session is for veterans, who will be asked to share their stories, their views and their needs in terms of mental health services. On Thursday, Feb.4 from 10 a.m. to noon, the focus will switch to rural voices. All are welcome to attend and, again, this will be a Zoom meeting to seek input on the effectiveness of existing mental health services and the need for more in the rural areas. For the final session, English and Spanish speakers are welcome as the focus shifts to Latinx voices; if you identify with the Latinx community, you are encouraged to come and share your views on the existing mental health services available in the region. This session is set for Friday, Feb. 5 form 10 a.m. to noon.

Organizers said they will share the outcome and information gathered during these unique Listening Sessions with decision makers at the county, regional and state levels.
