It was a busy week at home, for Riverbank High athletes, as girls volleyball hosted two games in a row, and the Bruin football team saw its first home game of the campaign.
RHS Football
Angelo Novi Stadium was busy Friday night, Sept. 1 with football on the home grass for the first time in the 2023 season.
The Bruins hosted Denair High School, in a non-league game, falling 20-0. The Coyotes were able to score six points in each of the first three quarters, adding one 2-point conversion along the way. The Bruins, coming off their first win in several seasons on Aug. 24, could not get anything going against Denair and took the shutout loss.
Riverbank travels to Sacramento this week, to play Florin High School on the Monterey Trail High field.
Lady Bruin Volleyball
Riverbank girls doubled up on the home court this past week, taking on Waterford on Wednesday, and Orestimba from Newman on Thursday.
They had a hard time with the Lady Wildcats, falling 8-25, 14-25, and 20-25 on Aug. 30. They did better the next day, splitting the first four games with the Lady Warriors, winning the first and fourth, but falling short in the tie-breaker, 8-15.
The Lady Bruins were to travel to Hughson on Sept. 5, then host the Lady Cougars of Escalon on Sept. 6.
Lady Bruin Golf
Riverbank’s girl golfers were to take on Escalon High at the Escalon Golf Course Tuesday, after The News went to press, and then travel to Hughson for a match on Thursday, Sept. 7.
Co-Ed Cross Country
The cross country runners, both boys and girls, were to compete in their first Trans-Valley League meet this week, at River Bluff Park in Ceres, then return there on Saturday for an invitational meet.
