High School Sports Teams Gearing Up For Fall Action

School is back in session and sports teams could get out on the fields for their first official practices on Monday, Aug. 10.

Football, volleyball, boys soccer and girls golf are under way, and each squad already has some action lined up.

New varsity head football coach Kit Jory has the Bruins eagerly anticipating the season, as they embark on an independent schedule, free of any league affiliation. Their first test will be on the road, at Waterford High School on Friday, Aug. 28. Five home games then take place from Sept. 4 through Oct. 2, when they will celebrate Homecoming against Galt.

Volleyball, under head coach Angela Cuellar, has scrimmages at home against Davis on Aug. 25 and Beyer on Aug. 27, then travel to the Orestimba Tournament on Saturday, Aug. 29.

Cross country, with coaches Monte Wood and Robbie Searway, starts with the Lodi Flame Invitational at Lodi Lake on Friday, Aug. 28.

Returning to coach varsity girls golf is Ismael Mercado and the girls take on Sonora in an Aug. 25 match, then host Tracy on Aug. 26, closing out the month at Greenhorn Creek against Bret Harte on Aug. 27.

Martin Gonzales leads the varsity boys on the soccer field, with their first action scheduled in the Pitman Tournament, games both Friday and Saturday, Aug. 28 and 29.
