mjc

The Modesto Junior College Theatre Department presents Carlo Goldoni’s classic comedy “The Servant of Two Masters” on March 14, 15, 16, 21, 22 and 23 at 7 p.m., and on March 24 at 2 p.m. in the Main Auditorium of the Performing and Media Arts Center on East Campus, 435 College Ave., in Modesto. The production features an original adaptation by MJC Theatre Professor Michael Lynch, who also directs the play.

Featuring a crazy plot that contains lost love, mistaken identity, hungry servants and lots of mix-ups, the Italian playwright’s 1746 work provides audiences with theatrical fun. Costumes for the MJC production include 20 original masks.

Servant features stock characters in the tradition of commedia dell’arte and Professor Lynch’s addition of an “ensemble of clowns” offers an opportunity for improvisation. The MJC cast includes: Pantalone: Shane Meyers; Dr. Lombardi: David Davidson; Silvio: August Eppler; Truffaldino: Daniel Medina; Beatrice: Kate Larson; Brighella: Emily Monson; Smeraldina: Cynthia Robles; Florindo: Marciano Zapien; Clarice: Kayla Bennett; Ensemble Captain: Sam Whittier.

The Ensemble of Clowns is made up of Roman Acosta, Michael Boschi, Sam Sterling, Jenny Biggs, Nicolas Carbone-Deep, Jacob DeBow, Krista Beal and Rudy Perez.

Tickets are $11 general admission, $9 for students and senior citizens, and may be purchased at the Auditorium Box Office, Tuesday through Friday, noon to 5 p.m. and 90 minutes prior to each performance, or by calling 575-6776 during these hours.
